MSc in Energy and Sustainability
Programme Details
The Master of Science in Energy and Sustainability is designed to meet the Framework of the Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ) at Masters level.
The programme aims to gain an advanced knowledge and understanding of specialist topics in Energy and Sustainability, to develop transferable skills in research and knowledge acquisition, to satisfy the professional development needs of the individual and his/her employers; providing relevant training to engineering graduates who wish to pursue a career in the area of Energy and Sustainability, and lastly to provide a foundation for further postgraduate studies.

Post-graduate taught degree, face-to-face lessons.

- Full time: 12 months
- Part-time: minimum 12 months, up to maximum 24 months

Minimum Entry Requirements
- First degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering qualification with minimum second lower classification (2.2)
- Candidates with a relevant engineering Diploma (2-3 years course) certificate with at least 8 (eight) years of working experience and is at least 30 (thirty) years old may also be considered on a case by case basis.
English Language Requirement
- English Language Entry Requirements : IELTS overall 6.5 or equivalent
- Exemption: You do not need to prove your English ability if you meet one of the criteria in this page.

Learning Outcomes
The programme provides opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate knowledge, understanding, skills and other attributes associated with Energy and Sustainability.
A successful student will have gained and be able to demonstrate:

Knowledge and understanding of current worldwide energy usage and its impact on the climate.

Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the origins and distribution of different renewable energy sources (solar, wind, hydro, wave, tidal and bioenergy).

Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the storage/conversion and integration of different renewable energy sources into existing systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of the sustainable use of materials to improve energy efficiency.

Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of a number of key non-technical issues including system modelling, environmental issues and energy management.
